This Recipe Book was donated by Stephen Tally.

The Talleys lived in the blue Colony House from 1924 until 1961.  Their house, originally built in 1888, is restored for the public to enjoy here at Strathearn Park and is part of the building tours available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

This Recipe Book has an inscription written by Mary Talley to Hoosie Tally and his wife Bertie.

Fun Fact: Hoosie, whose real name is Houston, lost the “e” in Talley when he joined the Army Air Corps in 1942.  From that day on, that branch of the Talley family were known as Tally.

When this house was first constructed it had no electricity, natural gas, running water or sewers.  But it did have some great home-cooked meals!

This Recipe Book was produced by the Simi Valley Women’s Club in 1955 and has lots of great meal ideas from many of our early Pioneer families.

Warning: Some of these old recipes can be habit forming.
