My family and I
moved to Simi Valley in August 1963. The house we had purchased was not
built yet, due to the fact that Metropolitan water was not here yet. We
had to buy another place to live in until the house on Fitzgerald Road
was completed. When we moved here there was one traffic signal here on
the corner of Tapo and Los Angeles Ave. A line of stately Eucalyptus
divided Los Angeles Ave. into two streets, one going east and the other
west. When we moved into the house on Fitzgerald the Runkles were our
neighbors. Their cattle as well often visited us looking down the 18
foot embankment behind our backyard. The children grew up here (4 boys,
1 girl) graduating from Simi High, Royal High, and one from Apollo. The
eldest and the youngest also graduated from Moorpark College. This year
marked my 23rd as a docent and I’m looking forward to the 25th!
